Dean's
Welcome
Welcome
to the Web site of Nurses for America.
Since
its inception, NFA has been a collaborative effort among Georgetown
University School
of Nursing & Health Studies,
AmeriCorps, our community partners, and dozens of nurse members
and volunteer leaders. It has been a project of people, catalyzed
by the efforts of Barbara Aranda-Naranjo, Ph.D., RN.
In
January 2007, Barbara departed NHS to pursue other professional
opportunities.
We remain deeply grateful for Barbara's leadership
of NFA and her willingness to continue as a nurse mentor and
volunteer. Jeanne Matthews, Ph.D., RN, has assumed the position
of NFA project
director.
Many
of you know Jeanne from her distinguished career and leadership
in the field of public health, as well as her
involvement with
NFA as a mentor and advisor. She is an assistant professor
in our school’s Department of Nursing and the nurse
manager and public health program specialist at the Arlington
County
(VA) Public
Health Division. Currently, she is serving as chair-elect
of the American Public Health Association’s Public
Health Nursing Section and will assume full leadership as
chair of
that specialty
organization later this year. She is also incoming chair
of the Quad Council of Public Health Nursing Organizations
and
continues
to publish in her field.
I
cannot thank Jeanne enough for her willingness to assume this
important role at NFA. She
exemplifies our school’s mission “to
improve the health and well being of all people,” as
well as Georgetown’s commitment, as the nation’s
oldest Catholic, Jesuit university, to serving society.
Do feel free to
contact her with questions at mattheje@georgetown.edu.
Sincerely,
Bette Keltner
